We see “Made in the USA” everywhere— on boxes, stamps, stickers, and packaging— the slogan is even sometimes etched right onto products themselves.

It’s no wonder that companies enthusiastically tote their merchandise’s American-made credentials. Consumer Reports National Research Center reported that shoppers are more likely to buy soft-goods manufactured in America, even if it’s more expensive than those imported from foreign countries.

The consumers in the report listed many compelling reasons for wanting to buy American-made wares. Many said they wanted to help support the employment of their fellow Americans working in manufacturing, while others expressed concern over the welfare of workers overseas, including worries over possible child labor. If there was an overarching consensus, however, it was the opinion of nearly all the consumers that they appreciated the high quality of products crafted by an all-American workforce. Such quality associated with American manufacturers comes about from increased accountability for the products they create and more sophisticated machinery and equipment to mass-produce goods.

A recent Joe Rogan Podcast with retired Navy Seal Office Seal Jocko Willink touched upon the topic of making goods here, in America, and why it’s so crucial to restore domestic the manufacturing industry:

“People are realizing now that there's a great benefit to making things here, in America,” Rogan says. “And it's not just this idea of national pride. National pride is great, but also, like you don't have to go anywhere to get things, and also, you keep jobs here."

American shoppers seem to agree, and the stats are backed up by the numbers.

Selectusa.gov reports that U.S. textile and apparel companies, including CustomFab USA, comprise one of the most significant sectors in the manufacturing industry. When measured by the value of industry shipments, our collective American-made products are worth nearly $70 billion annually!

With the Covid-19 epidemic changing how consumers do business, Americans are increasingly looking for medical and safety equipment manufactured in America by companies like CustomFab USA. Domestically producing such goods reduces the chances of shortages due to disrupted supply chains and foreign policy agreements.

As Forbes recently reported, “the severe shortage of masks and other medical supplies gripping U.S. hospitals is because of the fact there aren’t enough made in the U.S.”

During this health emergency, CustomFab USA has shifted some of its large scale manufacturing efforts to start producing personal protective equipment used by paramedics, firefighters,  doctors and nurses throughout the country. The company is proud to manufacture products in America and see them used by our friends and neighbors throughout the country in this time of need.

Some textile manufacturing companies use the label of “Made in the USA" as an afterthought, a flippant marketing gimmick to help close a sale. For CustomFab USA, “Made in America” isn’t merely a slogan. Since our humble beginnings in a Southern California garage back in 1990, it’s been a proud declaration of our values as a company and the people who manufacture its products.

As famed inventor James Dyson put it, “Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It's coming up with ideas, testing principles, and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly.”

Much in the same way, Custom Fab USA sees the manufacturing industry coming back to America as more of a wholesome collaboration, involving everyone from the front-line workers on the factory floor, to the innovators creating new products, to the courageous people on the front lines using those products to help others.

With any luck, in the near future, the threat of the Covid-19 virus might one day go away and leave behind, its wake, a revitalized manufacturing industry on American shores.
